Custom Machine Building: Hot Seat
A customer of ours owns a large catering hall and contacted us about installing a steam pressing room for them to clean and press their employee’s uniforms, table linens, and chair covers. We installed a steam finishing machine (Cissell Suzy Form Finisher), a pressing machine, a washer, and a dryer. After using the equipment for a few months, they called back and asked if there was a better way to finish their chair covers. The odd shape made it very labor intensive to remove wrinkles and make the chair covers look presentable.
After going back and forth discussing their issues and discussing possible solutions with our fabrication team, we were able to design an attachment that could mount on their finishing machine that resembled their chair form. This attachment allowed the customer to put the chair cover onto the attachment, clamp the bottom and use steam and hot air from the inside of the cover to remove the wrinkles. This attachment allowed the customer to use their existing form finishing machine body to steam their workers uniforms as originally designed and with a simple switch of the form allowed them to now steam their chair covers as well.
Since this product worked so well, we started the patent process. The device is called the “Hot Seat” chair steamer.
